Day One March 2nd ..Bluff to Lumsden 111km

The day started with an early rise at 6am. The guys were keen to get started. We were kindly taken to Bluff by Toddy's mate Deon .We left from the very top of Bluff Hill with a fairly nasty southerly gale blowing at around 40-50 knots......We made good progress all the way into town. We stopped on the way and caught up with Judi and her work colleagues at Southland Hospice. After a brief stop we set off on our way to Lumsden. On the way the wind direction changed and we found ourselves belting into a very stiff breeze. At times our speed went down to 19kph on the flat...basically grovelling.
The guys all rode well and never missed a lap. We arrived in Lumsden at around 1.30pm after setting off from Bluff Hill at 8.45am. Ange was well organised with lunch on arrival.
So all in all a good day, no drama's . So lots of wind but no rain was a bonus.....Tomorrow its Lumsden to Queenstown at around the same distance as today.
Special thanks to Pete at The Ascot Park Hotel. Everybody enjoyed their stay and will miss your huge as ice cream deserts.!!
Thanks for reading,
Steve.
